Celebrating Six Decades: The S650 Mustang Revives Classic Flair

 Sixty years have passed since the Mustang made its debut at the 1964 New York World's Fair. To commemorate the diamond jubilee of this iconic pony car, Ford has introduced a special retro-inspired 60th Anniversary package for the current S650 generation Mustang, available in limited production.

Ever since the Mustang show car first captivated audiences, Ford has consistently had a success story on its hands. The enduring appeal of the early models has helped the Mustang thrive into 2024, outlasting competitors like the Camaro and Challenger. While previous generations have taken cues from the original Mustang in terms of styling, this special edition package adopts a more literal approach.

A muscle Performance

Exclusively available for the GT Premium models, this package can be configured as either a coupe or a convertible. Customers have the choice of a six-speed manual or a 10-speed automatic transmission to complement the 5.0-liter V-8 engine.

The nostalgic theme is emphasized with a limited palette of exterior colors—Wimbledon white, Race red, and Vapor blue, enhanced by silver-accented mirror caps in the latter two. The interior offers a choice of Space gray, Carmine red, or black Onyx, and each 60th Anniversary model features distinctive trim elements such as replica original Mustang badges, a new grille pattern reflective of the 1964 model, and a silver-highlighted front intake.

Design

Additional design touches include 20-inch wheels with a dark gray finish and intricate detailing, topped with a red aluminum center cap reminiscent of vintage Mustang wheels. The package also includes unique smoked headlights that enhance the grille's visual impact, and customers can select from Iconic silver or Vermillion red for the rocker panel graphics.

What's the plan?

Ford plans to produce just 1,965 units of the Mustang 60th Anniversary package, with each model featuring a serialized plaque. The order books are set to open later this summer, and deliveries are anticipated to start in the fourth quarter of the year. Pricing details for the package have not yet been released.

Given the significance of this milestone anniversary, it is expected that these special edition models will quickly find buyers.
